Doppeldenk: Eden

The Yusto/Giner Gallery presents the first exhibition of Doppeldenk in Spain.

This duo lives and works in Leipzig (Germany), where they develop their work creating a radically post-pop-art aesthetic that draws on manga and the “8-bit” culture of the 80s. Interspersing paintings, sculptures, engravings, and neons using primary colours. Their pieces create unusual, subtle, critical and humorous commentary within their own context and phenomena of the masses.

They have been working together for more than ten years under the name “Doppeldenk”, a concept referring to double thinking from “1984” the dystopian novel by George Orwell. It describes the power of having two contradictory beliefs in one mind and simultaneously accepting both.

Man is created, but what to do with him?

God the Creator wanted Adam to have fun.

Then he planted a Garden of Eden in the east.

Four rivers provide the necessary fertility.

Adam's mission: gardening and caring.

So God peopled the garden with animals and created a woman, Eve, for Adam.

Everything was good.

This paradisiacal state will return at the end of time.

When Adam and Eve lived in the same boring paradise for some time, the snake

crawled out and piqued Eve's curiosity.

The serpent persuaded Eve to eat the forbidden fruit.

Eve ate the fruit and gave it to her husband who was with her and ate it.

Then they found they were naked.

And when God heard them, they hid in the bushes.

But that doesn't help them much anymore, any more than blaming the snakes.

Then the bomb went off.

"You will not die, but DOUBLE DENK knows that your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, able to see good and evil.”
