Museo Jumex announces two special activities as part of the exhibition Gabriel Orozco: Politécnico Nacional

On May 28, 2025, Museo Jumex will host two events as part of its Noches en el museo (Nights at the Museum) program, held in conjunction with the current exhibition Gabriel Orozco: Politécnico Nacional.

ROTATION, SYMMETRY, TIME. CHESS SIMULTANEOUS EXHIBITION
From 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, FIDE Master Pablo Tapie will play a simultaneous chess exhibition with 12 participants. In this format, the lead player moves between several boards, making one move at a time while the opponents await their turn. The event will reflect the concepts of rotation, symmetry, and time explored in Gabriel Orozco’s work.

Pablo Tapie (Mexico City, 1988) trained at the National Chess School. He competed in the U-16 World Youth Chess Championship in Heraklion, Crete, and has taken part in various tournaments including Pan-American, Continental, National, and invitational closed tournaments in Cuba, Argentina, Ecuador, and Costa Rica. He has earned five individual gold medals for Universidad Anáhuac México Norte in Blitz, Rapid, and Classical formats, and seven team gold medals in the CONADEIP competition. Tapie holds the title of FIDE Master and currently works as an audiovisual content creator for Chessable/Chess.com. He recently competed in the 2025 Mexican National Open Championship.

BREATHING THE GESTURE. GABRIEL OROZCO’S WORK THROUGH THE JAPANESE ART OF SUMI-E
At 6:00 PM, artist Goen will present a live painting session inspired by the work of Gabriel Orozco and the sumi-e technique, a Japanese form of ink painting on paper that seeks to capture the invisible—ephemerality, balance, and the perception of silence. The session will feature live music by maestro Saburo Iida, blending traditional Japanese instruments with electronic and minimalist sounds to create a meditative and contemplative atmosphere.

Goen is a Mexican visual artist whose practice fuses traditional Japanese aesthetics with a contemporary perspective. His work combines elements of ukiyo-e, expanded calligraphy, and the sumi-e technique, reinterpreted through an urban, modern lens. He has led workshops at Foro Cultural Goya and exhibited at the Academia de San Carlos, the Coyoacán International Book Fair, and various galleries in Mexico City.

Saburo Iida is a Japanese musician and composer based in Mexico. His work blends traditional instruments such as the shakuhachi and koto with electric guitars and digital processing. He has collaborated with visual artists, dancers, and filmmakers, crafting sound environments that move between improvisation, active listening, and meditation.

Both events will take place at Museo Jumex and are open to the public.
