Pirelli HangarBicocca. Mario Merz. Igloos

Curated by Vicente Todolí and staged in collaboration with the Fondazione Merz, this unprecedented exhibition will display more than 30 'igloos' by Arte Povera pioneer Mario Merz, marking the first time that these works are shown together in so large a number.

Mario Merz. Igloos will offer a once-in-a-generation opportunity to relive the artist's famous 1985 solo show at Kunsthaus Zürich in which his 12 extant 'igloos' - expanded to more than 30 for the Pirelli HangarBicocca exhibition - were arranged in the form of a village or città irreale.

Drawing upon numerous private collections and leading international museums, the exhibition will reveal the most innovative aspects and themes of the Merz's research, situating his use of natural and industrial materials, his poetic and evocative deployment of the written word, and his dialogue with the surrounding space and architecture in the panorama of international contemporary art over the last half century.
