A pioneer of modern art, at the center of Zurich's Dada movement, Sophie Taeuber-Arp (1889-1943) is considered the most important female Swiss artist of the early 20th century. As a modern dancer, painter, sculptor, designer and interior architect, she remained passionately dedicated to her art despite the threat of two world wars in a time of tremendous historic and artistic upheavals.

Written by Dr. Silvia Boadella, the great-niece of Sophie Taeuber-Arp, and based on family memories, stories, unpublished sources and documents, Sophie Taeuber-Arp: Ein Leben Für Die Kunst - A Life through Art goes beyond the classical genres of a biography, an essay, or even an exhibition catalogue. It offers an intimate portrait of the artist and her inner self.

This bilingual, richly illustrated publication coincides with a major touring retrospective dedicated to Taeuber-Arp at Tate Modern London (from July 15) and MoMA New York (from Nov 21).
