UN Celebrates World Day of Books and English and Spanish Languages

United Nations.- With forums and discussion panels on two of the most used languages in the world, the UN headquarters in New York celebrated today the Day of English and Spanish languages.

Precisely on this date the anniversaries of the death of William Shakespeare, Miguel de Cervantes and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega coincide.

Paraguay's mission at the United Nations held the forum 'Communication with gender inclusion in Spanish language, challenges and opportunities', to celebrate this date.

Today is also the World Book and Copyright Day, because other important events occurred on April 23, such as the birth or death of prominent writers: Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla, Manuel Mejia Vallejo, Maurice Druon and Haldor K. Laxness.

Starting today and for an entire year, Athens will be the world's capital of books, chosen by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

UNESCO said that Athens stands out for the quality of the activities seeking to make books more accessible to the entire population, including immigrants and refugees.
