What was I made for — Line Finderup at Yusto/Giner Madrid

Yusto/Giner is pleased to present What was I made for, a solo exhibition by Danish artist Line Finderup, on view at the gallery’s Madrid space until October 31, 2025, at C/del Barquillo 25, 28004 Madrid. The opening took place during the Madrid Gallery Weekend program.

In this exhibition, Finderup revisits the Tamagotchi, the 1990s icon, to raise questions about what it means to live, feel, and care within controlled environments. For many, the Tamagotchi was the first experience of tending to a digital life. Here it emerges as a metaphor for the relationship between vulnerability and control, and as a reflection of the invisible structures that shape everyday existence.

Through painting, sculpture, and video, the artist explores figures caught between movement and restriction, activity and repetition. What begins as the evocation of a nostalgic object develops into an inquiry into how life—organic or digital—adapts to predetermined systems.

Based in Copenhagen, Finderup earned her MFA from the Akademie der bildenden Künste in Vienna in 2019. Her practice spans video, games, installations, interactive virtual reality experiences, airbrush painting, and sculpture, media through which she examines the boundaries between the digital and the real.
