Arte por Excelencias joins the celebration for the 100th issue of Excelencias Turisticas del Caribe y las Americas magazine, with an exhibition carried out by 19 Cuban contemporary creators titled Review. The list includes Manuel Mendive, Jose Bedia, Roberto Diago, Rene Francisco Rodriguez, Jose Villa, Felipe Dulzaides, Arturo Montoto, Carlos Quintana, Eduardo Abela, Luis E. Camejo, Moises Finale, Kadir Lopez, Reynerio Tamayo (with an artwork created in conjunction with Eulises Niebla), Cirenaica Moreira, Rene Peña, Ruslan Torres, R10 and Angel Alfaro.
More than a curatorial proposal –in the strict sense– this display represents an opportunity of presenting a dialogue among artworks created by artists from different generations and trends that have been related to the project from its beginning, in the printed magazine and the website http://www.arteporexcelencias.com. The opening ceremony will be held on July 20, 4:00 pm, Origenes Gallery at Havana Grand Theater, and it’ll have as complement the presentation of Arte por Excelencias’ 10th issue, at the same gallery.
Curator and art critic Nelson Herrera Ysla said in the catalogue that “in this exhibition they have looked for those modulations, those changes that are already acclaimed due to the fine work of artists. A certain dose of humor integrates some of them –just like trying to define identities in process–, but they escape from superficiality with wisdom, for their languages are way on top of that, as certifications of natural authenticity. There are others in which landscapes, architecture, objects, make up a pictorial plot with high chromatic density. And, finally, you have those that make inquiries on supra-realities with oneiric origins, cautious social insertions or metaphorical dabbles with juicy plurality. Summarizing, artworks that explore uneven notions and meanings, from bodies as expressive support to the un-docile presence of cultural traditions.”
Herera Ysla also makes in the text to the unconditional support of many creators and Cuban institutions to Arte por Excelencias project, among them Genesis Galerias de Arte company, that joins the activities with the abstract art exhibition Reacciones adversas, to be inaugurated on July 20, 6:00 pm, La Acacia gallery.
