Three Cuban Artists Awarded in BID

Matadero Madrid Contemporary Art Center hosted on November 26 the opening ceremony of the exhibition related to the 3rd Latin American Design Biennial, organized in that city by Central de Design / DIMAD (Madrid Designers Association and Madrid Design Foundation) in order to promote the work of designers from 22 Latin American countries.

Professionals from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela came together for a call that responded to the slogan Emerging design. Innovation and future. Fortunately, this is an inclusive event that doesn’t represent one aspect of design, but proposes several categories: Interior Design, Industrial and Product Design, Graphic Design, Fashion and Textile, and Digital Design.

The main exhibition is also joined by a showcase of students from different education centers in the region, as well as parallel displays all over the city. Conferences, workshops, debates, the 4th Meeting on Teaching and Design, the Forum on Design Studies and Companies and the Forum on Design Events were organized to reflect on topics related to this world.

As for Cuba’s representatives, Nelson Ponce and Giselle Monzon were awarded on Graphic Design, due to the posters they created between 2010 and 2012 (Giselle’s were related to the Movies and Theater); and Mayelin Guevara stood out on Fashion and Textile, with Habana Noir collection in which she combined designs inspired by the Art Deco of Havanan architecture and her view on the contemporary city.

The exhibition at Matadero Madrid is going to be open through February 28, 2013.
