In the old Palace of Justice of the city of Matanzas, now a cultural hot spot during the XIII Biennial, took place this Saturday, May 11, the presentation of the 45th edition of the Arte por Excelencias magazine together with other activities of this artistic sub-center.
At the meeting, part of the team of the publication belonging to the Excelencias Group, presented the editorial proposals of this edition. Among them, a block dedicated entirely to the projects of the Biennial, with reflections of artists and curators such as Nelson Herrera Ysla and Manuel López Oliva. In addition, this issue includes a tour of different international fairs such as ARCO Madrid, Zona Maco, London Art Fair, arteBA, Madrid Art Week; all meetings in which the publication participates as a media partner.
The activity was also a reason to highlight the ten years of this multicultural magazine, together with the new proposals of contemporary art that this international event brings us. Matanzas, in this case, contains intermittent rivers among its major projects, coordinated by María Magdalena Campos-Pons. Reviewed in the pages of the magazine, according to the artist, is a "concept of exhibition based on the idea of transformation and the curative quality of traditional cultures in the Matanzas region".
This meeting marks the closing point in the cycle of presentations of the magazine, which was at events such as the Romerías de Mayo, in Bayamo and in the Biennial itself in the capital. For this reason, the president of the Group, José Carlos de Santiago, sent a greeting and thanks to the people of Matanzas, and especially to the cultural sector with which they have been in close contact since the very genesis of Excelencias.
The presentation culminated in the Plaza Vigia del Casco historico de Matanzas, where a performance was made with the pilgrimage of the Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre by the artist Adrián Sancho, a work that is exhibited as part of Intermittent Rivers. At the front, the Sauto Theater and the museum of the former Quarters of Firefighters, brighten up the view that, from the Palace of Justice, reaches to be seen with the sound background of the metals of the quintet, a group that initiated and closed the program.
