Over the last few years, we have been witness to a generational change among collectors. We often identify this transition with the impact that the economic crisis had over our art market. But the evolution goes beyond the simple economic circumstances: it has brought about a change in the way of understanding art with the appearance of a new generation of contemporary art lovers who demand a paradigm in keeping with the new times.
Let us say that in this field the turn of the century has made itself obvious in the first decade of the new century because now people that were educated and trained in the 80s and 90s, who stand out as a group of professionals with very diverse tastes and interests, among which art features, are the ones who buy art.
In this context, the so-called crisis has contributed to speed up this evolutional process, which today is totally consolidated. Furthermore, the vast majority of people who buy in fairs are led by a personal passion, and not by investment reasons, which also helps to normalize a direct relationship with art and based on the experience and the generation of emotions, something that is fully the result of the very essence of artistic creation.
