MULAFEST will bring Mexican culture to Madrid

MULAFEST, the Festival of Urban Trends, organized by MULA and IFEMA, is twinning with Mexico in its eighth edition, which will be held from April 26 to 28 at IFEMA- Feria de Madrid. On the occasion of the first international edition of the festival, to be held in Acapulco this summer, Mexican culture will be present in the contents of Mulafest 2019, with an exchange of talents between both countries that will reach all areas of the festival.

Of course, the presence of one of the greatest attractions of the country, its food, that can be enjoyed in Street Foods of the rest area of the festival, will not be absent.

Art and urban installations

This year the urban facilities will have an important weight with the collaboration of two Spanish architecture studios, Plutarco and Estudio Reciente, which will be in charge of Mulafest's ambience, planning and urban development, creating a large Mexican-inspired air facility, as well as a set of shapes, volumes and colors throughout the festival, inspired by the aesthetic of the legendary Mexican architect Luis Barragán.

The team that constitutes Plutarco has architectural and interior designers, focusing on branding and identities, installations, exhibitions and products. Based in Madrid, his project 'Experimento' has been reviewed by all specialized media. They have exhibited in Milan, Amsterdam, New York and in the Architecture Biennials of Venice and Oslo.

For its part, Estudio Reciente is the study of Architecture and design founded by Carlos Tomás in 2018. After graduating from the UAH and working for six years as an architect in Lausanne (Switzerland), he decided to return to Madrid to set up his own studio. With a transversal conception of design, he works where the limits between architecture, interior design or object design are blurred, seeking to find that solution that is his own and whose clarity makes it evident.

The festival will also include the participation of Juan de Lascurain, a Mexican artist and motivational speaker, who has collaborated with many brands, festivals and sporting events, contributing his colorful art and passion. He will be at Mulafest performing a life painting in the art area.

Among the ambience of the festival there will also be an alebrije prepared by the students of the European University of Madrid. The alebrijes, for those who do not know well the Mexican culture, are imaginary beings conformed by physiognomic elements of different animals, a combination of several animals, not only fantastic but also real.

The most international tattoo: Mexican Ink

Mulafest 2019 will have an area specially dedicated to the culture of tattooing in Mexico, in which four studies brought directly from Mexico will tattoo the public and demonstrate their techniques.

Buster Duque, graffiti artist and tattoo artist in equal parts. His first contact with graffiti was with a spray when he was still a teenager. Today he already has twenty years of experience as an artist. Its hallmark is the lettering, which expresses both the skin and the walls of different neighborhoods in Mexico.                                          www.instagram.com/busterduque/

Ignis Ink is a tattoo artist located in Mexico City. His tattoo designs are based on botany and fauna. Recently he has even taken out his own clothing line in collaboration with the designer Diego Chelovek, with a casual and very sporty style.                                          www.instagram.com/ignis.ink/

Mariana Villanueva is Hakunita, tattoo artist and outstanding Mexican artist and illustrator located in Mexico City. Her style is a mixture of realism with neotraditional, with a dark and macabre aesthetic. She focuses mainly on shading and line work, but also does color work. Her references are the nature, anatomy, death and Mexican popular / prehispanic culture.              www.instagram.com/hakunita/

Ka'Larraza is a graphic designer, illustrator and tattoo artist. For her, the illustration is like the universe: infinite and immortal. In her work she emphasizes the use of sharp, lines and details, not only talking about the graphic, but also in the conceptual, since she always seeks to create images that transcend the soul of those who carry them. Think of images, not words; and that is how she expresses what she is. www.instagram.com/kalarraza/ www.instagram.com/kalarraza.art/

Performing arts: breakdance

The bboying or breakdance returns to the festival with two competitions: the MBreak Battle, the national championship in which Bboys and Bgirls from all over Spain will compete in the 4 vs 4 modality to get classified for one of the most important championships of this modality; and the Allstyles Championship, which had great success in its first edition last year, in which dancers of different styles compete together to show what they know in authentic urban battles of dance.

But in addition, it will feature a special exhibition of the Mexican bboy, Ztimpy, who has been world champion twice (2018 and 2016), as well as a finalist in multiple competitions of this dance discipline.
