Island Visions

The exhibition entitled Horizontes Insulares (Insular Horizons) –a project focused on artists hailing from insular territories in different parts of the world- will remain open thru Sept. 23 at the Wifredo Lam Center for the Contemporary Arts in Havana.

This project comes along within the SEPTENIO program pieced together by the government of Canarias and that was dedicated to the Islands in 2010. In addition to the exhibit of contemporary art by a dozen artists, a literary collection has also been created. Both projects are intertwined and pursue a contribution to stronger ties among island nations from all around the globe.

The exhibit’s commissioner, Orlando Britto Jinorio, attended the grand opening on Aug. 4 in which the public watched works by Teresa Arozarena (Islas Canarias), Ricardo Barbeito (Madeira), Maria Jose Cavaco (Azores), Joelle Ferly (Guadalupe), Tchale Figueira (Green Cape), Gregorio Gonzales (Islas Canarias), Thierry Hoarau (Reunion), Belkis Ramirez (Dominican Republic), Sandra Ramos (Cuba), Roseman Robinot (French Guyana), Shirley Rufin (Martinique) and Julio Suaez (Puerto Rico). The project embraces different forms of expressions, such as painting, drawing, installations and videos.
