Wenceslao Robles’ Graphic Work

An exhibit comprising eighteen etchings by Seville’s Wenceslao Robles and entitled Spaces to Be Discovered opens this Friday at the Gravura Gallery & Workshop.

Robles’ work stands out for its subtle drawing and the addition of new technologies other than traditional techniques. The previous research plays a key role for the artist, even though it’s in no way a process he rams down his own throat but rather the result of spontaneity. In a general fashion, he “portrays” factorial environments, buildings and city edifices.

Wenceslao Robles Escudero (1976) graduated from Fine Arts with a degree in Design and Engraving at the University of Seville. He has exposed in 15 individual exhibitions and has entered in over fifty collective exhibits. In 2002, he won the Top Prize at the 4th National Contest of Engraving in Alcala de Guadaira, and walked off with top honors during the Second Engraving Prize of the Nuevoarte Gallery in 2004, among other awards and recognitions.

The Gravura Engraving and Publishing Workshop was founded in Malaga back in 1979 under the leadership of master etcher Jose Faria. Since the onset, this gallery has taken up the slack of traditionally empty spaces around the city. People drawn to graphic works have found here the perfect setting for countless meetings and explorations of a number of techniques. In 1990, the workshop started serving as a gallery mostly targeting pieces made on paper.
