Twisted Horizons by Alexandre Arrechea

Young Cuban artist Alexandre Arrechea is presenting a personal exhibit at New York’s Magnan Metz Gallery. The exhibition will remain open thru April 7.

This is Mr. Arrechea’s fourth personal exhibit in this gallery, but this time around he comes with a series of works that explore his interest in unbelievable connections among places or objects labeled as opposites. The starting point is nearly the same: a utility structure, like a bridge a road or a building. As a general rule, Arrechea’s work has been ingrained with architectural references. In this context, the artist stands outside “his buffer zone” to deal with elements that imply no personal reference whatsoever.

Alexandre Arrechea was born in Cuba’s Trinidad and graduated from the Higher Institute of Arts in Havana in 1994. He was a member of the Los Carpinteros (The Carpenters) Group from 1994 to 2003. He has exposed extensively in the U.S. and other countries. In the spring of 2013, he’ll install monumental sculptures at the Park Avenue Malls, while a publication containing vast information on his exhibitions in this gallery will also see the light of day.
