Caminos de Hierro: An Approach from Photography

A traveling exhibition, the result of the 26th edition of Caminos de Hierro contest, visits the stations of Adif – Administrator of Railway Infrastructures in Spain - through 2013 as part of the OpenStation Program.

 

Sixty authors express with 57 individual snapsand 11 series their visions on the railway universe, in proposals that cover from the oneiric to the abstract representation of a concept.

 

The exhibition is going to be showcased in Caceres through May 21, and then it will be traveling to Valladolid, Pontevedra, Oviedo, Bilbao, Santander, Logroño, Zaragoza, Girona, Valencia, Cartagena, Ciudad Real and Madrid, totaling 3,106 miles during nine months.

 

This contest has gained momentum within the Spanish stage and has acquired more importance among professionals and enthusiasts. Since 1986, the first year of this annual event, 30,131 photographers from every corner of Earth have participated in Caminos de Hierrowith 68,126 works.

 

1,321 authors from 25 countries attended the 2011-2012 edition. The prizewinners have been Simone Maestra (Italy), First Prize with her Once upon a timepicture; Francisco Jose Calderon Lozano (Badajoz), Second Prize for Locomotions, and Ines Blanco (Madrid), Young Author Prize for Vida bajo tierra. Also awarded: Luis F. Benzo Saez (Malaga), Carlos Bravo (Castellon), VariCarames (A Corunna), David Garcia Torrado (Asturias), Emilio Muñoz Blanco (Bilbao), Yvonne Ramona Ribes (Alicante), Chantal Stoman (France), Enrique Truchuelo (Burgos), Carlos Verdu (Alicante) and Roberto Zaldivar (Logrono).

 

This project joins Adif’s program to turn railway infrastructures and facilities into even more valuable spaces for the people, bringing about welfare and progress, by promoting the stations as cultural, value spreading and meeting spaces.
