Reflection and Review: OJO CON EL ARTE (changing dates)

This week, Cuban Writers and Artists League’s Villa ManuelaArt Gallery invites you to attend Ojo con el Arte reflection and review space, hosted by Nelson Herrera Ysla. Tuesday April 24, at 5:00 pm, will set a new opportunity for an approach to new generations of visual artists graduated at the Superior Institute of Art, through Mabel Poblet’s exhibition-thesis, titled Hoy mi voz tiene sonido.

Ojo con el Arte is a monthly event that has already held six editions. The objective is providing an outlook on the changes that have taken place in recent years when compared with other graduations from the 1980s and 1990s, though there are no deeply-revisionist or historicist ambitions. It is, undoubtedly, an opportunity to reflect on the ways of Cuban art that is presently produced, and try to understand what is going on.

Hoy mi voz tiene sonido puts together Mabel Poblet’s most recent works, testimonies of her maturing as an artist, in not many but intense years of career. Curator Chrislie Perez said: “some people have affirmed that there is an equivalent relation between her life experience and her creative process, and they aren’t far from the truth […], because Mabel is self-referential in shape and content. However, the art-life affiliation isn’t present in her from the Beuysianperspective, but through a conceptionof art as catalyzer of her personal experiences, feelings, desires, which allows her to maintain the state of homeostasis with the surrounding world”.

This time, Ysla invites the artist and Julia Portela, professor from the ISA that directly works with graduation projects.
