POEMS OF THE FORMS by Rebeca Mendoza

On Wednesday April 25, an individual exhibition by Argentine artist Rebeca Mendoza opened at Coppa Oliver Arte in Buenos Aires. The exhibition will remain open thru May 21.

Poems of the Formsis made up of 23 pieces of different sizes, painted in oil and mixed technique on cloth between 2011 and 2012. This series stands out for the role played by the white color in the composition because, even though it appears to be the background, it’s conceived to be an active and fundamental space for the forms. The works reflect the artist’s free and gestural spirit, following his outstanding abstract line he has gotten to after a long trip down figuration and constructivism.

“The desire of the gallery is to give visitors the possibility of taking a closer look at this exhibit, its poetics and sensitivity reflected in its works. Managing to express oneself in a clear, simple and sensitive language is the task of the gifted and the passionate,” says Ricardo Coppa Oliver, co-curator of the exhibit, together with Rebeca Mendoza.

Mendoza was born in 1967 in San Isidro, Argentina. At age 15 she had already made up her mind to study Fine Arts. She studied in her country, taught by the great masters, as well as in New York, where she found different stimuli and possibilities. She came back to Argentina in 2000 and since then she’s been linked to a building that has been teaching arts since the 1970s: the Alfonsina Storni School in San Isidro, turned by the artist into a center in which students and fine artists coexist and where her career carries on. Her works are scattered in private collections in Puerto Rico, Portugal, Chile, Canada, Peru, Switzerland, Spain, Argentina, and corporations like General Motors (USA), Prudential (Argentina), NYNEX (USA), among others.
