Color Studies at Artepuy Gallery

Artepuy Gallery, linked to the art circuit in Las Mercedes, Caracas, has been exhibiting since October 4 a collective showcase titled Linea CRITICA: Desplazamientos cromaticos, which is made up of pieces created by Crixo Aponte, Milton Becerra, Violette Bule, Isabel Cisneros, Jaime Gili, Pepe Lopez, Jesus Matheus, Reymond Romero and Rafael Rosas.

Photography, drawing, painting, assemblies and one tapestry have joined this project that was conceived by curator Lorena Gonzalez, who has devoted her time to deeply investigate emerging trends on Venezuelan art, by studying works of creators from different generations that presently live in the country and overseas, and they mainly exhibit works in alternative spaces.

Linea Critica is a research process: once a year, they put on the map the results of the study on certain aspect of contemporary visual production. This is the second edition, and color plays the leading role. On this matter, Gutierrez has said: “The chromatic heritage (…) not only consolidated important action elements in the vertiginous rhythms of an abstract movement with derivations leading to the geometric practice, lyric reflection or constructivist mural work, but also found in kinetics and specially in Carlos Cruz Diez’s work, a systematization of frequencies that responded to the distribution of philosophical concerns, where color abandoned the ties of format to arise in the exhibition space and create a transitive light situation, which is generated by the in situ confrontation with experiences of viewers. This contemporary exercise of color treatment has been followed by numerous new practices”.

The exhibition is going to be open at Artepuy Gallery through Sunday November 11.
