Genuine Testimonies by Cristina Garcia Rodero

Spanish photographer Cristina Garcia Rodero’s solo show was inaugurated on Thursday October 18 at Alcobendas Art Center.

Combatiendo la nada, commissioned by photographer Jose Maria Diaz-Maroto, proposes a vast tour around Garcia Rodero’s work, where women play the leading roles in told or suggested stories, scenes with deep melancholy or eloquent silence. Images of series such as España oculta, Americas, Lo festivo y lo sagrado, Rituales de Haiti, Entre el cielo y la tierra, Transtempo, among others, make up the exhibition and witness the amazing ability of the artist to adapt herself to the atmosphere and sense its keys, by facing limit situations, playing with time and being aware of the magic of making perdurable the ephemeral moment.

On her personality and work, Diaz Maroto has commented: “If I had to look for a characteristic and essential note on the personality of Cristina Garcia Rodero, it would undoubtedly be her frenetic passion when it comes to transforming everything into images, without wasting the possibilities offered by life to reflect human beings with a load of sensibility, tenderness and kindness. Cristina lives a relation with the reality /her reality, through the mediation provided by the camera, different from the rest of the mortals, always with prodigious results; apparently quiet, observant and contemplative, she becomes passionate, heated and throbbing when, carrying cameras and lenses, she works on each corner of Earth she has visited.“

Last year, this artist received Ciudad de Alcobendas Photography Award on its second edition, which redounded to Combatiendo la nada. A catalogue has been issued for this showcase, with the same name, and all of the exhibited pictures are included.

The exhibition is going to be open through January 23, 2013.
