Artisans pay tribute to Cigar, emblematic Cuban product

Matanzas, Cuba. A fair of cultural products began here today the IX Encounter Puro arte, pasión por la artesanía with the central theme based on the cigar, emblematic Cuban product, organized by the Association of Craft Artists (ACAA).

 


Scheduled until October 25th in the city, 100 kilometers to the east of Havana, the exhibit provides competitions in visual arts, applied arts, fashion shows or fancy dress, painting and photo exhibitions, and collection exhibitions.

 

 

Cultivation, production process, personalities, factories, famous brands and other aspects of this excellence of the island in various forms of creation are involved in the event, according to what the organizing committee said to Prensa Latina.

 

 

The jury will award a Grand Prize and awards in the categories of humidors, utility, decorative, plastic and collection, as well as many mentions as it sees fit.

 


Starting next Monday a theoretical meeting will begin and review a dozen papers on the same subject referred to the aromatic leaf, according to the program of the event prepared by the Matanzas subsidiary of ACAA.

 


Among the works discussed are included Besos de Fuego, una visión plástica sobre la historia del puro ( Kisses of Fire, a plastic vision of the history of the cigar); El Tabaco en Matanzas (The Cigar in Matanzas); El enigmático mundo de las pipas (The enigmatic world of the pipe); La Diversificación de las marcas de Habanos (The Diversification of Habanos brands) , and La labor sociocultural del Museo del Tabaco (The sociocultural work of the Museum of Cigar).

 


Puro Arte also conceived spaces to present the book: H Upman 170 years, and an evening for the bicentennial of Jose Jacinto Milanes (1814-1863), a native of this city, who was a poet, playwright, essayist, and grower Spanish-language romantic drama.

 


Traditionally these events of ACAA, often biennial, have shown a wide range of taste in paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, digital art, video, graphic and environmental design, and textiles and ceramics, say experts.
