APGALLERY is opened, the gallery where art interacts with the landscape

APGALLERY is an art space with an integrated and sustainable architecture, open to the landscape of the Sierra de Ayllon (Segovia) as a context for the exhibition of works in permanent dialogue with the landscape Amadeo Gabino is considered one of the most important artists of contemporary Spanish sculpture and with the biggest international recognition.

APGALLERY has created a unique space in Spain that takes as its essential starting point to deepen the relationship between art and landscape. Located a few kilometers from Riaz, the gallery offers a new experience for the viewer in which the pieces are integrated into the space they are exhibited. With this first exhibition APGALLERY starts what will be one of its lines of work: to reveal the link between art, landscape and abstraction, understanding that this artistic will and not figurative, finds to its works, configurations that invariably end up associated with the landscape. The essential starting point is to deepen in the relationship between art and landscape.

Metales translúcidos, curated by the APGALLERY team and directed by the architect Marta Maiz, in close collaboration with the artist's widow Elke Stelling, collects sculpture by  Amadeo Gabino in his direct relationship with his artwork revealing his most personal and less widespread work. Drawings, collages, prints, sculptures and models come to light, many of them for the first time to complete an overview of the work of Gabino, primarily identified as a sculptor.

APGALLERY shows us the multifaceted and vital artist who pursues the same concept from different disciplines in parallel, enriching them and making them evolve through the blending of his working method? Gabino addresses engraving as if a sculpture is involved, although more loosely and fluid, and instead, faces the sculpture as a piece of paper, assembling, folding and overlapping planes of cut metal.

Amadeo's language suggests an inner world that is sensed through multiple glazes of his prints and the interstices of his sculptures. Surfaces, both in paper and metal, acquire degrees of transparency and greater formal flexibility, resulting in a dialectic on the transparent and the opaque, the ephemeral and the enduring, the seen and the unseen.

In this exhibition, the viewer can see the words of the artist: "We have to make a work that is not flatly a picture or sculpture. I am in favor of fertile hybridity."

Amadeo Gabino (Valencia, 1922 - Madrid, 2004) is considered one of the most important artists of contemporary Spanish sculpture and with great international recognition. Gabino is formed in his father’s sculpture studio, Alfonso Gabino. His artistic interests and his traveling spirit led him to live and work in Rome, Paris, Milan or New York, befriending and fruitful acquaintance with the artistic elite of the vanguard of the most diverse disciplines, such as Lucio Fontana, Henry Moore, Mario Marini A. Calder and Louis Khan. These experiences play a major role in shaping a personal universe that unfolds over half a century of work.

APGALLERY is unlike any other art gallery as it offers the art associated with a natural space, at which the viewer's receptivity to the beauty is increased. It also provides to contemporary art a unique context in which exposures, in ongoing dialogue with the landscape. With this exhibition, APGALLERY begins its journey around the original approach of its foundation: understanding the experience of contemplation of the works of contemporary art as a whole, intellectual and sensory experience, associated to the landscape, and incorporates "el viaje"( the journey) understood as observing the gradual transformation of the scene and the daily rhythms like to add a variable to the viewer's perception and sensitivity.
