Spanish Juan Goytisolo, Cervantes Prize 2014

Madrid.- The Spanish writer Juan Goytisolo won the 2014 Cervantes Prize, considered the highest honor of Hispanic literature.

Goytisolo (Barcelona, 1931) is one of the most important storytellers of the past half century and has a large catalog of works including novels, short stories, essays, poetry and travel stories.
The opinion of the jury highlighted his investigation capacity and permanent commitment in intercultural dialogue, with his outstanding intellectual quality.

The Mexican Elena Poniatowska, last year Cervantes winner, considered Goytisolo, plus outstanding partner between Europe and the Islamic world, an intellectual man who since he was young also joins two banks, the Latin American and European.

He is a writer and a man who can be counted on for his authenticity, Poniatowska said at the ceremony in which the Minister of Culture of Spain, José Wert, announced the award.
