Van Gogh, Munch, Goya and Velázquez: Encounter with art in 2015

Goya at the National Gallery in London, Munch in Madrid or Velázquez at the Grand Palais in Paris are some indispensable events for the art lovers in 2015. Also meaningful is the 125th anniversary of the Van Gogh death to be honored with art exhibitions in several European countries.

 

New proposals related to Museum, fairs that annually help to assess the market of art as well as biennials are part of the artistic panorama scheduled for 2015. DPA announces the highlight of this subject:

 

125 YEARS OF THE VAN GOGH’S DEATH - Netherlands, Belgium, France and United Kingdom will honor the Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of his death with some exhibitions, cultural events and even with the opening of a cycleway inspired by his painting "The starry night" - in the Brabant Dutch province.

 

KUNSTMUSEUM BASEL AT THE REINA SOFIA MUSEUM: From March 18 until September 14, a hundred masterpieces from the Kunstmuseum Basel, considered the first public museum in the world, will be seen at the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia National Museum in Madrid. Some of them by great artists such as Edvard Munch, Georges Braque, Fernand Léger, Paul Klee, Piet Mondrian, Max Ernst, Emil Nolde, Wassily Kandinsky, Hans Arp, Alberto Giacometti, Barnett Newman, Jean Tinguely, Donald Judd, Jasper Johns, Steve McQueen and Bruce Nauman.

 

VELÁZQUEZ IN PARIS: From March 25 to July 13, the Grand Palais in Paris will host the work of Diego Velázquez, the most famous painter of the Spanish Golden Age, to be exhibited along with paintings by artists of his time that he has the opportunity to meet, admire, and represented some influence for him.

 

MUNCH IN MADRID: On 6 October, the Thyssen Museum, Bornemisza of Madrid will host "Edvard Munch", the first retrospective on the Norwegian artist – after that carried out in 1984-which will bring together some 70 works of the artist, in collaboration with the Munch Museet in Oslo, and curated by Jon-Ove Steihaug and Paloma Alarcó. The tour will show the artist’s career by assessing the strategies he used to guide its work towards a psychological dimension.

 

GOYA AT THE NATIONAL GALLERY: From October 7 until January 10, 2016, the National Gallery in London presents "Goya: The portraits", the first exhibition exclusively dedicated to the portraits of Francisco de Goya (1746-1828) that will host more than 50 works brought from around the world, including drawings and miniatures organized in a chronological sequence and subjects in order to provide his technical, stylistic and psychological development as a portraitist.

 

NEW MUSEUMS IN MÁLAGA AND SANTANDER: New museums will be opened in 2015 including three centers in the Malaga, in the southern part of Spain, which will host since spring the first subsidiary of the Pompidou Museum in Paris, outside France, with pieces of modern and contemporary art. Also in the first quarter of 2015, it would be inaugurated the subsidiary that the Russian Art Museum in St. Petersburg will open in Malaga, focused on works by Russian artists from the 15th century until the present time. And later, in the last quarter of the year, is also planned the opening of the Malaga Museum. On the other hand, in Santander, they expected the Botin Center opening by the end of year, a work created by Genoese architect Renzo Piano that will give a new life to the Bay of the city in the North of Spain.

 

ART FAIRS IN 2015: The first big event of the year is the LA Art Show in Los Angeles, to be held from January 14 to 18, before the London Art Fair, which will open its doors between the January 21st and the 25th. Although later compared to other years, ARCO madrid, the contemporary art fair in the Spanish capital, will open its doors from February 25 to March 1 and this year Colombia will be the country guest.

 

The ArteBa, an encounter of Buenos Aires with the contemporary art, will be held from June 4 to 7, while all the people will keep an eye for Basel, Switzerland to see Art Basel, from June 18 to 21, the largest fair of the sector directed by Marc Spiegler, which annually assess the state of the international art market. Earlier, from March 15 to 17, its version will take place in Hong Kong, and from December 3 to 6, will close its edition in Miami, one of their most successful and expected venues that are contributing to turn the city into a place of cultural encounter. Before, the contemporary art will go through the Grand Palais in Paris from October 22 and 25, with the FIAC.

 

2015 is also year for biennials: Venice will host its 56th edition from May 9 and November 22, while Havana city will celebrate its 12nd edition from May 22 and June 22 under the theme "Entre la idea y la experiencia” (Between idea and experience), focused on urban areas.
