By: Rosa C. Baez

Artist Yudit Vidal Faife was born in the Santa Clara city, in the central region of the countryand she depth her roots in Trinidad village (located in Santa Clara city) where she graduated in Plastic Arts in the Restoration and Conservation of movables specialty.

Yudith has been also linked to traditions issue. She presented an exhibition compiling lingerie works by over 20artisans, on which she applied her painting work through a kind of change of support and artistic techniques. So, the lingerie works are not only useful things since they have become works purely artistic.

These lingerie works, which are made with needle, thread, weaves and embroideries, openwork, are beautiful complements for clothing. They are artisanal weaves which point of origin dates back the fields of La Mancha in the Middle Age. These kind of artisanal works have given prestige to Trinidad since ever and many women, girls and even men have felt attracted by them.

Other activities will be carried out at the Casa de la Obrapia, previous to the exhibition opening on March 11, at 10:00 am local time. Carlos Enrique Sotolongo, PhDwho is the exhibition curator will give a lecture, which will lead us throughout the story of the lingerie in Trinidad, from its beginnings to the present time. That day and after, engineer María de la CaridadViciedo will share with the audience her assessment, which tells about the finishing of this kind of work. We should highlight that the exhibition also pays tribute to artisans from Trinidad who kept this old tradition.

A meeting-workshop called Taller "Manos laboriosas" will be held on March 11 afternoon lead by artisans MagalyRamírezPlaceresand Zaida Ramos, and with the participation of artisans from Trinidad and the capital.

We invite you all to this artistic exchange between the art of painter Yudith Vidal and the artisans’ art.
