Chucho Valdes to Perform in Colombia

Cuban composer Chucho Valdes, who is considered to be one of the best instrumentalists and jazzmen in the world, will perform in Colombia on March 14, a presentation that will take place at the Jorge Eliecer Gaitan Theater in Bogotá.

Media outlets of the Andean nation promote in the Colombian capital the concert of the famous musician, who made his debut in the world of show business with his father, Bebo Valdes, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.

The District Institute of the Arts sponsors the presentation of the artist, a piano virtuoso that also excels for his long list of albums.

A successful pianist since he was 20 years old, Chucho founded later the group Irakere, with which he started a project to protect and revere the musical roots of his native island.

His international revelation as prominent and reviving exponent of the world jazz movement and particularly of its Afro-Cuban aspect, took place at the Jamboree Festival of Warsaw, held in 1970.

In 2006, he was appointed Good Will Ambassador of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
