Arte en Orbitaremains at the Center of the Contemporary Art of Quito

Arte en Orbita exhibition will be opened at the Center of the Contemporary Art of Quito until June. It is a link between ancestral technologies, which are related to the look and the understanding of the cosmos with the current proliferation of new technologies (hardware and free software).

 

 

It shows a critical look in the way of creating and use techonlogies, and provide the tools necessary to re-link the human being to the space and science.

 

 

The exhibition shows works of artists and groups working with spatial processes with elements of the planet and its orbits. When touring the exhibition the public will observe independent spatial programs with or without satellite, in which a strong emergency of Latin America and other places like Palestinian or Quebec that they have never had spatial programs.

 

 

It is like the awakening of the global south and the social and geographic strata, occupying the skies and retaking the project of the Bogota Declaration of 1976, the first attempt of an alliance between the countries of the equator. They include thesatélitePegaso of Ecuador, TupakKatari of Bolivia, the Mexican Spatial Collective,Palestinian Space Agency, the African Research Agency and Copenhagen Suborbitals.Those who build rockets and spatial vehicles will be present, among others, in the exhibition through texts, installations, videos, images, objects.

 

 

Listening the satellites, the planets and the electromagnetic camps is another space in the exhibition and has sound installations of some artists who worked with sounds of land, the satellites, like Carruba, ReniHoffmueller, Alejandro Duque or Alejandra Pérez, among other historical recordings of the first orbital sounds.

 

 

Works by visual artists will be seen. The Simone Chambelland’s engravings of 1970, lent by the Museum of Fine Arts of Santigo de Chile are powerful doors towards spatial imaginaries. Also, the retro futurist machine by ArcangelConstantini conceived for the satellite of the Mexican Spatial Collective. The observatory of terracotta by Carolina Ibarra will be accompanied for the investigation of the heavenly-body-ancestral environment of Quito carried out in the workshops of Ines delPiñoand CristóbalCobo. The afro-futuristpost-porno by Leila Lopes or the excursions by the Kongo Astronauts point put a re-appropriation of the spatial imaginaries while PilarQuinterosand Jaime Rodríguez explore the OVNI phenomenon.

 

 

A selection of historical and scientific fictionmovies, which was showed in the museum auditorium, reflect the historical, imaginaries and political data of our relation with the space from the beginning of the 20 century.

 


Practical workshops of research involve the public foe they to listen the space and the environment contributing this way with the exhibition. The publication with outstanding writers show action and reflection.
