Designation of Uruguayan Place as Heritage will Encourage Tourism

Montevideo.- The inclusion of the ancient Frigorífico Anglo as Patrimony of the Humanity of the UNESCO is very important for the local positioning, affirmed today the Uruguayan minister of Tourism, Liliam Kechichian. The recognition means a big step, as also it it was for the historical part of the city of Colonia del Sacramento, in 1995, said the minister in reference to the only another hereditary place of the Uruguay. 

 

After celebrating the designation of the place as an 'extraordinary news', Kechichian announced that, along with the local authorities, her portfolio will design and build the tourist product.

 

She also recognized the impulse that means for the program of nautical tourism that the Government promotes in the Uruguay river, in Fray Bentos, department of Río Negro, where the place is located.

 

'In some moment we dream, and now it has big possibilities of materializing, that Río Negro, passing for Carmelo and continuing up to Colonia del Sacramento, could have an historical and heritage circuit', she added.

 

The Government arranged for today several cultural activities to celebrate the designation of the place as Patrimony of the Humanity, announced on eve in Bonn, Germany, for a special commission of the UNESCO.
