Frank Fernández in concert

Prestigious Cuban pianist Frank Fernandez will offer a concert on July 16, at the Basílica Menor de San Francisco de Asís, located at the square of the same name of Havana's historical site.

This unique performance will cover works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and Lecuona, besides Frank's popular Suite for two pianos.

This composition includes five themes: Bolero, Waltz Joropo, Noon Conga and Habaneras and it finishes with Zapateo by law, a piece of particular brightness by its big virtuosity and rhythm.

Fernández is considered the father of the Cuban piano school, since his students have won 27 international awards without having studied at foreign conservatories.

The maestro is one of the big defenders of Cuban great pianist, Ernesto Lecuona, whose pieces he usually includes in his concerts on the most diverse stages worldwide and, this time, as he told Prensa Latina News Agency, he will interpret La negra bailaba, Malagueña, and La comparsa.

Furthermore, he will incorporate to the program some of Chopin’s waltzes, and one of the most famous Beethoven's Sonatas no. 21 in C major, Opus 53, known worldwide as Aurora for transmitting comments of the composer about nature.

On July 3, Fernández presented a video art made from one of his musical compositions paying tribute to Cuban legendary dancer Alicia Alonso, under the audiovisual direction of filmmaker Alejandro Pérez. The choreograhy was conceived by Tania Vergara and the performance by First Dancer of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, Viengsay Valdés.

Critics from several continents praise the virtuosity of this great pianist, having acquired the Golden Certificate at the Chaikovski Conservatory of Moscow.

So far, he is the only Cuban being decorated with the Pushkin Medal, granted by the President of Russia, Vladímir Putin.

For some, he has been touched by Gods, while others highlight his virtuosity on the piano, and most consider him one of the best interpreters of the most sublime moments of the universal music and, therefore, one of the greatest pianists in the world.

Having been granted more than 200 awards, Fernández has won a big prestige as a versatile musician, since his compositions surpass the figure 650 on different formats: ballets, choirs, soundtracks for cinema, radio and television, as well as arrangements for groups of popular music.
