Contemporary Dance of Cuba to Premiere Catalan Artist Work

Danza Contemporanea de Cuba (Contemporary dance of Cuba) will premiere a work by the Catalan choreographer Angels Margarit Viñals on September 24, at Mella Theater in this capital, announced the company direction board. With the world premiere of Otros caprichos (Other whims), the company celebrate its 57 years of existence and will dance again pieces mounted in recent seasons as Reversible, by the Belgian-Colombian creator Annabelle Lopez Ochoa; Crystal (The Glass), of the Cuban Julio César Iglesias; and Matria Etnocentra by George Céspedes.

 

Viñals received the National Dance Award of Spain in 2010 and since 1985, runs one of the most established companies in the European country: Mudances.

 

She has won awards as the National Dance Prize in Catalunya (three times), the City of Barcelona Prize for the Performing Arts in 1993; Grand Prix of the choreographic competition Bagnolet, France, in 1998; and the Federal Award for Dance and Choreography, in Switzerland, in 2013.

 

The Contemporary Dance of Cuba Company season from September 24 to 27 will have the participation of the star dancer from the United States, Rasta Thomas, who will dance a solo as a guest star.
