Alicia Alonso to return to Cuba after tour through Spain

Havana.- The Cuban National Ballet (BNC, as per its initials in Spanish) Prima Ballerina Assoluta,  Alicia Alonso returned this week to the Island after participating in  a tour the Cuban company made through Spain since last September.

 

 Alicia Alonso assured the press the tour, which has not yet concluded, has been a success because of the excellent critics the BNC has received.

 

She also said the program they presented delighted the people, who mostly admired the generation continuity of the ballet company.

 

According to Pedro Simón Martínez, director of the National Museum of the Dance, the performances were characterized by the amount of leading roles performed by the younger figures, besides those already established ones.   

 

Among the news that brought the also Cuban choreographer is the publication in Spain of the volume “Alicia Alonso. En palabras de poetas”, with lyric texts by more than 70 poets about the relevant dancer. 

 

The book published by Ediciones Cumbres publishing house gathers writers from different generations as José Lezama Lima, Cintio Vitier, Miguel Barnet, Fina García Marruz, among some others.

 

In these moments, the BNC prepares presentations at the theatre of the Opera of Muscat, Oman, with the ballet Don Quixote, and afterwards they will continue the tour through Spanish stages in November.

 

The tour will close on November 7 at the Auditorio Kursaal, San Sebastián, where they will perform Swan Lake
