Percussionist Rodney Barreto releases first solo album

Cuban percussionist Rodney Barreto has released an album –his first solo musical production, entitled ‘Drummer negrito’, which paraphrases the title of the iconic tune by Cuban composer Eiseo Grenet.

Barreto said the album, under r label, is about the musical history of drums in Cuba, the African and Spanish influence and the transculturation phenomenon.

Invited artists include Tony Rodríguez, who arranged the tune ‘Dudas’ (Doubts) by maestro Juan Formell, Rolando Luna, who performs an arranged version of the iconic tune ‘Te quedarás’ popularized by Benny Moré. The new version included in Rodney Barreto’s album is sung by Omara Portundo –the Diva of Buena Vista Social Club—which Berreto himself termed as a special gift and a great honor.

Other guest artists who collaborate with Rodney Barreto in this album include Harold López-Nussa, Anzel Tosca, Esteban Puebla, Yandry Martínez, Adonis, Alejandro Delgado, among others.
