PRINCIPIOS DE AFIRMACION, Through May 19

Mexican artist Ricardo Rendon’s (Mexico D.F., 1970) first individual exhibition in Spain was inaugurated on March 24 at Espacio Minimo gallery.

This time, Rendon shows actions, site specific interventions, sculptures and assemblies, as a way to reflect on the concept of work and the making process of contemporary art. Chasing this goal, he uses materials –felt, wooden panels, sandpaper and copper tubing– and different tools, from traditional occupations such as bricklaying, fur industry, carpentry or plumbing.

The introspection within the working context has caused the creator to get closer to other spheres marked by the direct contact with the materials and tradition, which also turn out to be possible spots for creative learning.

“That’s how I find –Rendon says– in the making a way to recognize and define mi person as a producer. The creative work as affirmation. Therefore, I directly focus my interest in the experience when facing working conditions as a result of the clash among different stages and territories. Living in other places, countries, streets or the white space at the gallery through the exploration of transformation possibilities”.

Ricardo Rendon lives and works in Mexico City. He studied Fine Arts at La Esmeralda National Painting, Engraving and Sculpture School. He has been given several recognitions, such as the National System of Creators scholarship. FONCA (Mexico D.F., 2006 and 2011), the Production and Exhibition scholarship by Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (Miami, 2009 and the Triangle Art Trust Artist's Workshop (New York, 2006).

The exhibition will be open to viewers through May 19.
