ANCHORED IN THE TERRITORY. Group show

Galleria Continua opens its new space, Arte Continua, in the Chinese neighborhood of La Habana. A space with a history in the community coherent with the history of the gallery for over 25 years joining the othe locations in San Gimignano (Italy), Beijing (China) and Le Moulin (France).

The old movie theater, El Águila de Oro will be exhibiting pieces by artists Susana Pilar Delabante, Elizabet Cerviño, Alejandro Campins, Reynier Leyva Novo, José Yanque and Carlos Garaicoa.

For this ocassion The Year of the Rat (2008), from Carlos Garaicoa will be shown as part of the exhibition, considering the context in which the exhibition is conceived and its emplacement, in an emblematic location of the city.

Without implying historical or deep sociological pretensions the video documents an instant of Cuban history, taken from the testimonies and narrations of the Chinese community, numb as many, waiting for radical changes. Based on interviews made to native Chinese and their descendants, and with a documentation of the actual situation of the geography of this neighborhood, The year of the Rat builds a metaphor on the failure of a political system; and at the same time it elaborates a document of the integrity and spiritual strength of this community. The film tries to portrait an specific geographic settlement, the Chinese neighborhood of La Habana, its inhabitants, a diaspora, in a historical moment where economy, politics and the view of China have a central role in the geopolitical global order.
